He has two brothers named Sanjeev Khandelwal and Rahul Khandelwal. Rajeev adopted a 5-year-old girl in 2007 and in 2011 he married his longtime girlfriend Manjiri Kamtikar.

- When Rajeev was in 9th standard, his father took him for the audition for a Punjabi TV serial where he got selected. But his father didn’t allow him as it was a 3-month-long outdoor shoot.
